Desktop Layout Overview

XForm Viewer plays up to 128 video windows in time-synchronized lockstep. Save layouts as project files (.fvp) and export synced playback as MP4 movies or PNG sequences.

System Requirements

Operating System	Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
Runtime dependency	.NET 8 Desktop Runtime (x64) Required for launching. Download from Microsoft if the app fails to start.
Supported Videos	AVI, MP4, M4V, MPG
Recommended Setup	A scroll-wheel mouse is highly recommended for frame-by-frame scrubbing.

Opening Video Files

XForm Viewer supports up to 128 simultaneous video panels (5–6 is typical for normal laptops).

File Menu

Click File → Open Video File from the controller menu to select a video.

Drag & Drop

Drag and drop a video file directly onto the playback controller panel.

Replace Video

Drop a new video file directly onto an already open video window to swap it.

File Association

Enable in Option → Associate File Extension. Double-click files in Explorer to open them instantly.

Switching Playback Modes

You can easily switch the playback controller between Simple Mode and Expert Mode depending on your workflow complexity.

Click on the Option menu tab, then select Simple Mode(N) or Expert Mode(E).

Option 2 Keyboard Shortcuts

When the controller window is active, press the shortcut keys to switch instantly:

Switch to Expert Mode	`Ctrl` + `E`
Switch to Simple Mode	`Ctrl` + `S`

Startup Settings: To choose your default startup controller layout, select Option → Save Setting as Default and configure under the Controller tab.

Multi-Video Synchronized Playback

XForm Viewer synchronizes multiple video windows based on each video's Frame Rate and Trigger Frame parameters. If these values are not set correctly, videos will be out of sync during playback. Right-click any video window to open the Property Setting dialog and configure these values.

Frame Rate

Property Setting → Frame Rate field

Specifies the number of frames recorded per second (fps) for this video. XForm Viewer uses this value to compute the elapsed time for each frame. If Frame Rate is incorrect, the playback timeline will be miscalculated and videos will not align in time.

Trigger Frame

Property Setting → Trigger Frame field

Specifies which frame number corresponds to the synchronization zero-point (0 ms / event moment). All video windows are aligned by their respective Trigger Frames. If the Trigger Frame is wrong, the videos will be offset from each other at the moment of the event.

Frame Rate

Set to the actual recording fps of this camera (e.g. 1000 fps for a high-speed camera)

Trigger Frame

Set to the frame number at the moment of the event trigger (sync zero-point)

Setup Steps for Synchronized Playback

Open each video — Load all videos via File → Open Video File or drag & drop.

Right-click a video window — Select Property Setting from the context menu.

Enter the correct Frame Rate — Match the fps to the camera's actual recording frame rate (e.g. 1000, 500, 250 fps).

Enter the correct Trigger Frame — Find the frame number where the event trigger occurred and enter it here.

Click Set — Apply the settings. Repeat for each video window.

Tip: After setting Frame Rate and Trigger Frame on all videos, press Home or 0 to jump all windows to their synchronized zero-point (0 ms). Use ← / → to step through frames in lockstep.

Large Time Counter Overlay

Enable a resizable floating time overlay via Option → Show Large Counter. Jump directly to a specific timestamp by clicking the counter, typing the time in milliseconds, and pressing Enter.

2 Seek & Jump to Time

Click the counter window, enter your target time in milliseconds, and press Enter to seek.

Resize Counter (Expert Mode): Click the counter overlay window, hold Shift, and scroll the mouse wheel to dynamically scale the counter size up or down.

Always on Top: Enable Option → Always Set on Top to prevent the controller window from being hidden behind other application screens.

Parameter Mirroring & Copying

Easily copy variables (like FPS, auxiliary lines, titles, scale) from one active window to another target video window. Click the source video window to focus it, press Ctrl+C, select the destination window, and press the corresponding hotkey combo.

CSV Waveform Sync

Synchronize and plot external CSV sensor data (e.g. pressure, velocity, acceleration) concurrently in real-time alongside high-speed video frames.

Waveform Config Dialog

Open a chart container via File → Open Wave Form → Blank Chart or drag a CSV file onto the app.
Right-click the chart window to open settings, and click **Open** to load your data CSV file.
Configure mapping:

Time Series Set Time Column and X-Axis to same index. Specify Y column(s).

XY Scatter Set Time Column. Set X-Axis to your X data, and Y-Axis to your Y data.
Set unit time (ms / sec) and use Skip Row to bypass header strings (0-indexed). Click **Set** to render.

Auto Range: Select the chart window and press Ctrl+A to automatically scale the axis to the loaded sensor data bounds.

Default Settings & Setup

Configure default parameters such as startup mode (Simple vs Expert), snap distance, caching options, and folder paths in the Default Settings panel.

Layout Assist defaults

Set horizontal alignment (Z-direction) or vertical alignment (N-direction) as default when opening new camera video feeds.

Start-up mode

Toggle whether the app launches with simple controls or boots directly in expert mode under the Controller tab.

Windows Defender & SmartScreen Exceptions

As a custom utility, Windows SmartScreen or local antivirus setups may raise warning notifications upon running Setup.exe. Temporarily register setup path exceptions to guarantee a smooth execution.
